Your Body is an Animal, Not a Machine

Something I have found myself telling my clients, is that their body does not need to be ‘fixed’ - it is not a machine to be ‘dealt with’ - it is an animal. An animal that is calling for you to come into relationship with it.
Pain is one of our body’s ways of communicating with us - loudly - when we have not paid attention to the whispers. And if we continue to not heed its calls, it will MAKE us listen, through whatever means necessary; illness, injury, breakdown etc.
The pain in your body is calling for your attention; your attuned, curious, compassionate - relational - attention. For your listening.

This is a - if not the - core aspect of my work (and an intrinsic part of my own journey with my body through chronic illness/auto-immune disease) - listening, relational touch.
I do not approach your body with an ‘idea’ or assumption of what it needs from me - I may have a sense of how the whole of you is looking and needing to be met and held, and which parts are needing more attention, but each and every time I am about to touch someone, I ask that my ego be put aside, so that I may listen to the body’s messages. So that I may hear what she is saying, what she is needing, and follow her guidance.
I trust the body’s intelligence above any and all information I may have learned through courses, books, teachers etc. It is always orienting towards wellness, balance, healing and alignment. I am simply here to listen, and offer the conditions and relationship necessary in order for it to do this.
And more often than not, do you know what she is asking?
‘Be with me here’
‘Hold me here’
‘Be gentle with me here’
‘Wait’
‘Just be with me’
I am consistently humbled in my work at the transformation that occurs within the body and energy field simply through my deep reverence, listening and attuned response. The melting, the letting go, the deep sigh of release from the tissues and nervous system when they are finally met in the way they are needing to be.
What is your body asking of you? How is it calling you to meet it?
In deep respect and awe for the life-force that makes up and animates us all,
Reve x
